I really need to use this Tumblr thing more…

Because in two weeks I have to destroy all ounces of procrastination in my body…

Have to set aside more time for studying and reading…

And ban myself from videogames, Facebook, and Youtube…

This will really be an interesting year ahead of me…

18 Days and Counting…

The point is, I can’t tell you how to succeed. But I can tell you how not to: Give in to the shame of being rejected and put your manuscript—or painting, song, voice, dance moves, [insert passion here]—in the coffin that is your bedside drawer and close it for good. I guarantee you that it won’t take you anywhere. Or you could do what this writer did: Give in to your obsession instead.

And if your friends make fun of you for chasing your dream, remember—just lie.

So after a very great KAMP Retreat I had come home to find out that all the computers in my house had decided to just break.  This was back in August.  And for all the while since until probably last Sunday there was not a working computer in my house for about three weeks.  Now if you’re wondering that shit drove me insane being out of contact with the world.  Being disconnected from all non-personal contact via Facebook, AIM, etc., really was draining because I need a computer to work, communicate, and be a complete functional human being that can contribute to society.

What the weeks without a computer taught me was the skill of being adaptive and resourceful when I needed to use a computer.  Without a computer in my house, I was able to hang out with my cousins, especially my cousin Jairus before he went back to the Philippines to finish school.  It also got me out of the house and into the library to rediscover the need to complete tasks quickly since I only had an hour for computer time.  That experience really showed me how much time I waste on the computer doing who knows what.

Overall, I think I learned something by not having a working computer in the house.  And that is to be appreciative of what you got to work with.  And if you don’t have, then hit the ground running and find something that works for you.
